About Us
Hi Ac Cake fam!! My name is Maria Turua aka Ria. I am a busy mum with 6 kids ages from 24 to 3 years old and i started Ac Cakes and cupcakes 10 years ago in my home kitchen in Wellington.
A little cliche, but it all started in 2015 when my 5 year old daughter asked for a "princess castle" cake for her birthday. "I'm sorry what?" I replied haha. So naturally as a mum, you want to provide some sort of happiness for your kids, so I jump on google to find how to make one. "Surely its not that hard!" Well, it was hard! But man did I have a good time doing it. So much so that I'm still here making her birthday cakes in 2025!
After a decade of dedication, I've earned my Bachelor's degree in Applied Business, built years of expertise in cake decorating, and launched a small business specializing in custom cakes, cookies, and desserts
But my baking journey started when i was much younger. I developed a passion for baking when i was just 8 years old. Possibly could have been younger but this age is when i knew, and it mattered to me. I loved baking and being in the kitchen, i still do. My love language is definitely food!
I was raised with my aunt in Johnsonville and in those days, (not that long ago lol) if you enjoyed eating food, you had to help prepare it. And so i did, I learnt how to cook, bake, clean my mess haha. This wasn't voluntary haha, it was forced. But these life skills that were embedded in me young is the reason I am, who I am and why Ac Cakes exists.
A C stands for Auntie Charlie. I was honored to name my business after the lady that made me who I am, who taught me the most valuable life skills i need to keep making custom cakes for my community.
